3 NGOs launch Blood Diamond and invite consumers to take action | | by Fran Goldstein www.diamond-key.com keynet@shani.net | Something new to think about.
The fact that it will be on Oprah means it will have all the credibility that it needs and whatever is on the other internet sites (with facts favorable to the diamond industry) will be questioned.
This is a very powerful site visually and geared to the movie's demographic audience.
WEBSITE - CRITICAL OF DIAMOND INDUSTRY Global Witness, Amnesty International, and the "Blood Diamond" movie have launched a new internet site obviously with the blessing of Warner Bros.
www.blooddiamondaction.org,
The site contains information about conflict diamonds that is very critical of the diamond industry and in conflict with information that the diamond industry has on its own website.
OPRAH = INSTANT CREDIBILITY According to a blog post from the website's designer, he expects it to be mentioned on an upcoming Oprah television program which should give it incredible coverage and with it credibility - just from Oprah's talking about it.
THE TRUTH ABOUT DIAMONDS Included on the site are a few photos and links to the movie's trailer, as well as a "buyers'' guide" and a section on "The Truth About Diamonds." THE BUYER'S GUIDE - QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR JEWELER The Buyer's Guide asks consumers to ask jewelers the following questions: * How can I be sure none of your jewelry contains conflict diamonds? * Do you know where the diamonds you sell come from? * Can I see a copy of your company's policy on conflict diamonds? * Can you show me a written guarantee from your diamond suppliers stating that your diamonds are conflict-free?"
TAKE ACTION In the "Take Action" section, there are suggested letters to the United States government and the World Diamond Council
